Sairat Movie Screening
A modern day Romeo and Juliet story in a rural setting that depicts the influence of societal casteism and political ambitions on innocence and love – seems like a typical Indian movie. However, add to this the directorial brilliance of a director whose debut film won him the Best First Film award, music by the only Marathi musical duo to have won the National Award for Best Music Direction for a Marathi movie, and brilliant performance by talented debutants and it turns into a movie that has made entire theaters dance to its beat and experience the emotional journey that it represents.
Triveni Mitra Mandal, in association with Marathi Cinema North America, is pleased to announce the screening of “सैराट” – directed by Nagraj Manjule (Fandry fame), music by Ajay-Atul and starring Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar, this movie has opened to rocking theaters in Maharashtra and other states in India (Movie Trailer). This movie was selected for the 66th Berlin International Film Festival under its Generation 14plus section. Rinku Rajguru was awarded a National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention (Feature Film) at the 63rd National Film Awards in 2015 "for her effective portrayal of a lively girl who defies societal norms but ultimately has to face the wrath of her family".
